-PREFACE-
It is strange but true that rather than obstetric conditions
producing major morbidity and mortality in pregnant mothers,
Medical Disorders in Pregnancy has a much larger
contribution in this. For an average obstetrician-Medical
Disorders in pregnancy are confined to anemia and pregnancy
induced hypertension (PIH). However, we all know that the
subject in fact has a much larger bearing. In this book a
wide view of these disorders has been taken. Anemia has not
been confined to nutritional anemia alone but also to the
much more difficult to treat non-nutritional anemia. In the
light of the same PIH has not been confined to a routine
approach but also its immunological aspects in
antiphospholipid syndrome too. Infections the giant villain
in medical disorders have been seen with a detailed view.
Genetics too has been touched as a subject that borders
medical disorders in Pregnancy The editors have carefully
selected the contributors for their contributions. They have
all been reputed in their respective fields in which they
have been invited to contribute.
We are indeed indebted to all of them for their
painstakingly prepared contributions and the top-class
material that they have contributed.
Lastly as we at the Medical Disorders in Pregnancy Committee
of FOGSI, place this book in the hands of the obstetricians,
we pray to the Lord to lead us all from darkness of
